We’ve stayed at the Fearrington House Inn twice and are already looking forward to going back. It’s a privately owned retreat in the rolling countryside, an easy drive from Raleigh and Durham, with a calm, elegant feel from the moment you arrive. There’s plenty to browse and enjoy, from the boutiques, gift and book shops to the café, wine tasting rooms, and spa. Dining is a highlight too, whether it’s breakfast or a candlelit dinner. The Belted Goat is a nice spot for a relaxed café-style lunch, with gourmet treats, baked goods, coffee, and tea. The staff make the stay feel personal and restful. It’s a lovely place for a romantic break or a chance to recharge.

The staff were professional and attentive, but our Thanksgiving dinner at the Fearrington Inn fell well short of what we’d expected from its reputation and the price. My wife and I went with two friends yesterday, hoping for a special meal and atmosphere. There wasn’t any Thanksgiving decor, or even much of a festive touch, when we arrived. The dining room felt more like an upscale nursing home. Aside from the scallops appetizer and the signature chocolate dessert, the food was underwhelming. The whole experience was far below our expectations.

The room was beautiful, and the complimentary breakfast was delicious. It was table service with made-to-order food, so no powdered eggs or overcooked meat. My husband took me here for our anniversary weekend, and we had a wonderful time. They kindly gave us a free upgrade, which was so generous. I hope we get to celebrate here again.

I only had one night at The Fearrington House Inn, and I wish I could have stayed longer. It was a peaceful getaway, just what I needed, and I’m already hoping to return. The room was comfortable and beautifully appointed, with thoughtful details that made it feel special. From arrival on, the place felt warm and welcoming. The staff were gracious and attentive without hovering. I highly recommend it.

Breakfast was a real highlight. I loved the little smoothie starters and the choice of white or brown sugar. My husband ordered the Fearrington breakfast each day, and it was huge, with perfectly cooked eggs. I was excited for the lemon blueberry pancakes, but the first serving wasn’t cooked through. The replacement was the same, barely cooked on one side, so I gave up after two tries and switched to oatmeal. They were a real miss. The suite was spacious and impeccably clean, with a super comfortable bed, luxury linens, and plenty of pillows. We appreciated the upgrade to a king suite. The bathroom was stunning, with a great shower, towels, and heated towel rack, and its layout separated the sitting area from the bedroom so it felt like an apartment. The carpet looked brand new, but the drab tan and brown furniture and drapery felt truly outdated and kept the large suite from having the high-end elegance it deserves. Service at the inn, front desk, restaurant, spa, and boutiques was above and beyond. The grounds are gorgeous and constantly maintained. Meghan gave me an outstanding massage, and afternoon tea in the formal dining room was delightful. The shops carry wonderfully distinctive items. Dining days and hours are limited. We didn’t realize until our last evening that an informal dinner was available in the lovely restaurant bar area, since the website made it seem like the only option was a four-course prix fixe meal. Make a reservation. We enjoyed the meal. All in all, it’s a lovely, well-cared-for and hospitable property, and the staff are first class, with a genuine interest in making guests feel welcome.
