Fenway House Hotel

I loved the old world charm of this building. It felt like stepping into yesteryear, while the updates have clearly been made with care to keep the hotel current. My room was clean and comfortable, and I'd stay here again.

We only came through this way by chance, and I'm really glad we booked a night. The suite was beautiful and charming, with a comfy bed and chairs, a nice coffee setup, and a fridge with a freezer. The Jacuzzi tub was lovely, too. Easily the best hotel experience I've had.

The value was a big plus: The Fenway House Hotel cost less than half of the Platteville hotels, and the scenic drive to campus took about 30 minutes. We even passed several Amish buggies on the way. Our stay was relaxing, and the room's individual decor and thoughtful touches made it pleasant. It had a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee pot, and the air conditioner cooled it quickly. The ice machine in the common hall worked well, with coffee supplies nearby. Getting in was simple. We received our room number and door code by email the day before arrival, and the door was open and ready when we got there. It locked automatically when closed. To get back in, we touched the lock pad to light the number pad, entered the code, and pressed #. We stayed for the UW Platteville Homecoming Game.

The place has a cool history, but that was about the only good thing for me. Over three nights, nobody cleaned the room; we had to call for fresh towels and to have our garage taken out. The room and towels smelled like mold. The beds were awful, and the room was so dark and creepy, with two tiny windows that let in no light. It felt like a horror movie, and I'm not even sure the place meets fire code. I was so glad to get out. At $140/night, it's outrageous. I'm shocked we didn't get bed bugs. Avoid it. If you insist on staying, make it one night and run.
