Redwood Suites

The continental breakfast was very good, and Room #9’s suite was just the right size. It was nice having a kitchen, though the old refrigerator made a lot of noise. The bed was uncomfortable because of its plastic mattress cover. The suite reminded us of our grandmother’s place and needs updating. The shower head needs servicing too.

Staying just off the Main Street made this lodging a great base in Ferndale, which is such a gem. Our family’s suite was spotless and laid out well. Across the way at the Victorian Inn, breakfast started the day nicely with freshly made strawberry cardamom muffins. They were superb, and we were ready for a fun day of sightseeing.

The room felt old and damp, and I was disappointed by its size. The bathroom was small, some furniture was oddly placed, and the kitchen didn’t seem to have enough utensils. In the living room, the TV was smaller than a regular computer monitor, with no seating directly in front of it. The couch faced a different direction, so watching from there was hard. There was no TV in the bedroom either. Downtown was walkable, so most food was available there. It wasn’t clear where the entrance was when I drove in. Reception is at the Victoria inn, across the street and a block away, and that’s also where you go for the free breakfast. Having to go over there wasn’t convenient. Breakfast wasn’t hot, just the usual coffee and tea, fresh muffins, and some whole fruit. The map showed an EV charger in the parking lot, but I couldn’t find one when I checked. Maybe ask the front desk.

For what I needed, this place was perfect: rustic, cute, and peaceful. It’s far enough off the highway that I couldn’t hear any cars, apart from the little to no street traffic. The room was very clean, and they upgraded us to one with a kitchen at no extra cost. For such an old town and building, the important things were up to date, including the shower, kitchen appliances, and bed. You’re not close to larger cities like Eureka, but if a half-hour drive doesn’t bother you, it’s a very pleasant stay.
