SureStay Hotel By Best Western Fernley

The staff were the best part. The front desk was welcoming and professional, and the woman making breakfast was polite and lovely. Her food was delicious. The room itself felt like a refurbished lower-class motel, despite the hotel photos. The doors open to the outside, with no indoor hallway, and the old chain style safety lock didn't feel secure. The TV was small and outdated, and we couldn't get onto the WIFI. I was also uncomfortable staying there with my children, since the motel hosts many construction workers, mostly men. We came for a baseball tournament, but the pool, the main reason I picked this place, wasn't in service. In the evening the hot water heater failed. The staff's solution was to send my juvenile children to shower in the "RV Community" stalls, where there was nothing to protect our privacy. My kids had to go to bed dirty, then spend another full day playing baseball without a shower until we got home from the trip at 10:00 p.m. that night. My son also stepped on glass shards twice while walking barefoot in the room. We won't stay here again.

The rooms may be listed as non-smoking, but smokers gathered on the shared balcony outside, so getting to our room meant walking through clouds of smoke, and the room smelled stale too. Skip the breakfast. There were mystery stains on the chairs and old, crusted food spills and hairs inside the microwave. I'm not expecting luxury when I travel, but this place was disgusting.

There are no elevators, which I must have missed in the listing, so heavy luggage would be a problem if you're put on the second floor. My other complaint is that the beds are very firm, and I didn't find them comfortable.

The grounds need cleaning up, and the whole place needs an upgrade. Best Western has gone way downhill, and I'll never stay again. At $140, this was a huge rip-off. The room wasn't clean. The AC was filthy and its filter was gross, and the microwave was dirty too. The walls were dirty and had lots of chipped paint. The fridge ran all night and froze my food, with no knob to adjust the temperature. And don't get me started on the sheets.
