Baymont Inn & Suites by Wyndham Madison

I like the hotel, and the gym and pool area are great. The rooms are nice enough too. But I’m extremely livid about how check-in went. A different Windham location wiped out and overcharged my card, and it took a month of struggling to get paid. I finally got my pay sorted out today, then went to check in here. The kid at the desk had a bad attitude and took it personally when I was confused. He made assumptions and jumped to conclusions out of nowhere. When I said he was being rude, he acted like he just didn’t want to rent me a room. It’s a terrible joke. People come to rest and relax, not deal with discrimination, bad attitudes, or staff taking things personally when they should be helping guests get situated.

Check-in and checkout were smooth, and we had a good stay overall. The waffles at breakfast were good, and the kids enjoyed the pool and hot tub. My son had trouble signing into the WiFi, but the front desk kindly helped him connect. The room was clean and the beds were comfy, although they sat higher than might work for people with less mobility. Some of the pillows were very firm, which is a matter of preference. I’d booked an accessible room with extra clearance around the furniture, an adjustable handheld shower, and a shower seat. What we got appeared to be a standard room, with an ordinary shower stall and regular space around the furniture. I didn’t badly need my mobility aids that night, so I could still use it. In the bathroom, the trim where the vanity and shower meet was poorly finished. The baseboard stuck about half an inch past the wall corner and could catch someone’s ankle. If it were my property, I’d fix it before someone got hurt. The hotel is minutes from the local Electrician union’s holiday light display, a favorite for the holidays, especially with younger kids. Donations are welcome and go to local projects. Nearby businesses can be more complicated to reach than a map suggests because of the highway and frontage road access. Maps navigation was accurate, but driving between nearby places takes more effort than you’d think. We’d consider staying again.

The staff were friendly, the shower was great, and everything was very clean for a great price. Breakfast was basic: a few kinds of bread, Fruit Loops, waffles, one type of yogurt, oranges, and apples. I didn’t use the pool or hot tub, but they looked clean. The TV wouldn’t connect to the internet, so I couldn’t watch regular channels, and one light strip didn’t work. The room didn’t have much lighting and the beds were on the thin side.

The hotel room was super small, and there was barely anywhere to sit and watch the kids in the pool: just 1 table and two chairs. The pool had so much chlorine it made me choke. On a Friday we arrived to find only 2 towels and washcloths for the 4 people on our reservation. The front desk clerk was very rude when I asked for enough for our family, and said they were out. You shouldn’t have to buy towels and washcloths at Walmart after paying $150/night. The clientele also seemed questionable. I highly recommend staying somewhere else.
