Both nights, people staying next door spent hours loudly hanging out outside around midnight, so we couldn't sleep. The dirty room was another reason we cut our three-night Skyline Lodge booking short after one night: stains on the carpet, a terrible smell, and visible dirt. At check-in, “V” was cold and answered our questions as if we should already know everything. This was our first stay and will be our last. I called at 12:15 Saturday to cancel the final night, and “V” told me to ask the manager for a refund on Monday. We checked out Sunday at 9 a.m.; the polite receptionist said the same and added a cancellation note after telling me there wasn't one yet. Monday afternoon the manager had gone, and Tuesday morning and afternoon I couldn't reach him either. I left a message with my number. A receptionist called back and asked what I needed. When I explained we'd stayed two of three nights and had been directed to request a refund, the manager said, “We already refunded you.” I thanked him and said I hadn't checked yet, but he snapped, “You should check before you call the manager.” I was speechless. He asked if I needed anything else. I told him how unprofessional “V” had been, and he only said “Okay, I’ll speak with the staff.” There was no apology or acknowledgment. No refund was in my account when I checked after that call; it came the next day. I'd strongly suggest other options.

The bar and restaurant downstairs have indoor and outdoor patio seating, and once they even served us food and drinks after closing by mistake on our part. Their kindness and phenomenal service meant a lot. The hotel is easy to reach from the interstate, has plenty of parking, and the lake view from the back is lovely. I've stayed several times while passing through, and the clean, comfortable rooms have a cozy lodge feel. It also felt safe and welcoming for queer folks. Honestly, I'd go out of my way to stay here.

After our last-minute birthday ski trip to Winterplace, I realized once I was home in SC that I'd left some belongings in the room. The Skyline Lodge staff helped find them and arrange to ship them back, which I really appreciated. The location was great, and the room was clean and comfortable. It was a great experience.

We came to see the fall foliage, and Skyline was a great base for enjoying West Virginia's scenery. The lakefront was our favorite place to relax. Our spacious room was clean, with a nice microwave and refrigerator; the bed, sheets, and fluffy pillows were comfortable and clean. We also tried the bar and restaurant onsite. Friendly service and great food, especially the steak sub and onion rings, some of the best I've had in ages. We'd gladly come back.

We stopped for an unplanned Thursday night in January, and the quaint room was $86. The restaurant inside was quite good, like a nice little local pub, and I'd visit both again. The Chini Hendrix burger was phenomenal. The pulled pork nachos, though, were just so-so.
