Landmark Inn

We left in the middle of the night and had to find another hotel, after finding bugs on the wall and spider webs throughout the room. I’d booked this place because of its great ratings on Booking and Google Maps, but I still don’t understand those reviews. The rooms didn’t feel vintage to us, just old and dark, with a strong musty smell. Check-in took an extremely long time. The front desk staff was unfriendly and kept acting like he couldn’t understand our accent. When we showed him photos from the room, he just asked, “There’s only one bug, and that’s it?” We found a great hotel for almost the same price.

The room was clean, and if clean and quiet are all you need, this might suit you. For more than $200 for one night, though, I expected better. Check-in took a while: we rang the bell several times and talked in the lobby before anyone noticed us, about 10 minutes later. We had some trouble getting checked in, but eventually got into room 11. The property sits up a hill, and the driveway is long and steep. I like exercise, but wasn’t willing to walk to old town. The stairs and balcony felt angled enough to make it seem like they might tip, not like a treehouse as another review said. There were no lamps in the room, just lights you could switch on or off, despite the information page saying the lamps had USB ports. The spa tub is enormous, about the size of the bed. The “kitchenette” was a drip coffee maker, fridge, toaster, and some silverware, the most minimal one I’ve seen. There was no coffee, though the info page said a coffee maker could be provided on request. For $200 on a weeknight, this place needs a major update and makeover.

I asked the desk for coffee, and she brought out a whole tray with a pot, grounds, cups, cream, and sugar. We loved it! The inn felt warm and welcoming, the bed was comfortable, and there was plenty of room.

We could see the water from our second-floor room and felt far away from everything, even though restaurants were close by. It’s an older property, but clean and well maintained. The owners explained clearly where to find coffee and ice in the lobby and how parking worked.
