Affordable Suites Florence

Mike sorted out a key that had lost its programming pretty quickly. Check-in over a holiday weekend was easy, and the room was spotless. A full-size sofa would’ve been useful, but we managed fine. My friend and I stayed while we were in town for the Southern 500. The only disappointment was Mike’s Clemson Tigers losing. Go Buckeyes........

Mike was very nice and helpful, and the location was good, but I won’t stay here again. In room 110, the freezer wouldn’t get cold enough to freeze anything, there was no toaster, and the oven was stuffed with piles of aluminum foil. The toilet rim was black, the couch was dirty, and the sheets looked old. There were stains or burns on the comforter and stains on the blanket. The room also smelled odd. A coffee pot was there, but no mugs or cups. The smoke detector looked as if it might fall down, and the AC vent had rust on it.

For two people, the room worked well, and there were plenty of shops and restaurants just a few minutes away. It had a full-size fridge, microwave, small stovetop, plus pans, silverware, and dishes, though we brought our own. Check-in took under two minutes, and both the room and the area were very quiet. The TV didn’t work, but we weren’t too bothered since we use our phones anyway, and we weren’t sure if it was the remote or something else. There’s no breakfast or pool, neither of which we needed. We cooked for ourselves. The price was affordable, and we’d definitely stay again and recommend it.

We won’t return to this Florence location. The night we found fleas in room 104, my husband, our one-year-old, and my 60-year-old parents all had to leave. We’d carpooled, and my parents’ room had only one bed, so there wasn’t room for everyone to sleep together. I called the emergency number on the door, and Mike apologized but didn’t offer a refund. Later he said an exterminator had found no evidence of bugs, though the room had been treated as a precaution. The black spots in a photo of my son’s toy looked like fleas or bed bugs to me. We bagged everything and left it in the back of our truck when we got home at 3:30 a.m. so we wouldn’t bring anything inside. We’d booked two rooms for the race we volunteer at over Labor Day weekend because we needed full-size refrigerators. We work 12-20 hour shifts from Friday through Monday morning, so we barely spend time in the rooms. One room smelled of mildew and had a humidifier when we arrived. Friday night was okay, and on Saturday we were in the room only four or five hours. On Sunday morning my husband noticed a bite, which I thought might be from a mosquito. When we came back at 1:30 a.m., the fleas were on the blankets, toys, and carpet, getting on our feet.
