Hilltop Inn

The sink and shower were dirty and broken, and the bedding was the worst part: torn and dirty, with blood stains on the sheets and awful pillows. They don't provide shampoo, soap, or any other amenities, so bring your own. Service was okay, though not good. The room was somewhat clean. Honestly, you get what you pay for, and this place isn't completely awful, but they really need to replace the sheets. It seemed like they weren't washing them.

We only stuck it out for one night because the timing left us almost forced to. The online pictures are misleading, and I made a real mistake booking without seeing it first. We hope to get our second night refunded tomorrow, but another post said refunds are hard to get. The bedding and towels were old and heavily stained, with hair and dirt on them. The walls and floors were filthy, and the recliner was disgusting, just like it looks in the pictures. Brown water came out of the shower, and I had to let it run for 20 minutes before it cleared. There weren't enough towels or blankets, and no shampoo, conditioner, soap, or lotion. There's no breakfast either, so you'll have to buy food yourself. The cheap rate wasn't worth it.

The parking lot photo was taken just after sunrise. I kept wondering how this place stayed open. Years ago, when I lived in southern FL during its drug-trafficking heyday, I saw many businesses sit for years with hardly anyone in the lot. It made me think about money laundering, and this motel had me wondering the same thing. The room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, even though signs said the motel was non-smoking and that smoking wasn't allowed within about 25 feet. The cigarette disposal bins were right by the staircases. I asked for a ground-floor room, and the manager said that was absolutely impossible because the motel was full. Later, I woke in the early morning and saw only one other car in the lot. I felt he'd lied. There were a couple of cars the next night and a few more the night after. To address the smoke, the manager gave me an air freshener spray bottle but didn't offer to move me. The room's chair should have gone to the dump years ago. It was so disgusting I wouldn't touch it, much less sit in it. The floor lamp by it had no plug, so it was useless. The tub seemed fine at first, but the water backed up during my second shower. When I ran it during the third, it backed up even more, and there wasn't enough hot water anyway, so I didn't get in. The bedspread looked dirty and had cigarette burns and other holes that hadn't been mended. The linens weren't clean enough, and I think I found boogers on a hand towel. After a night on the mattress, I needed plenty of exercise to ease my aching back. I'm no spring chicken and have plenty of life experience. You couldn't pay me to stay there again. The motel looked like nobody had worked on it for years.

The rooms were good, and I had a good stay. The staff were really nice and friendly.
