We ended up driving another hour to the Drury, and I was glad we did. It was better in every way and only cost a few bucks more. We’d already driven 11 hours and just wanted to rest before getting back on the road that night, so it was a relief not to stay here. I’ve traveled coast to coast plenty of times and never run into such a strict 21+ rule for a room. The website let us reserve without clearly showing the age requirement, and I didn’t expect you had to be 21 just to sleep 😂. The front desk person was hard to understand, mumbling through every sentence, and wasn’t helpful or clear. I know Choice Hotels are franchises, and this is near ST Louis, but the booking process should check your age before letting you make a reservation. If you’re heading toward Kansas City, the extra hour to Drury may be worth it.

Betsy made check-in quick and was really friendly to talk to. She answered my pricing questions and confirmed customers can park a semi truck and trailer in the lot next door. The room had plenty of space, comfortable beds, and a clean bathroom. I was glad there was a fridge and microwave, too, and breakfast in the morning was great. I’d definitely stay again.

The only real downside was some noise when lots of people were going in and out, since the doors don’t have bumpers to soften the closing. Still, I had a great stay. I’ve stayed here before and liked it then, too. The location worked perfectly, the rooms were clean, and the staff were very friendly. And despite some other comments I’ve seen, breakfast was great.

The way management handled our complaint made an already frustrating stay even worse. I told general manager Betsy about the broken laundry machines and the hair in the shower, but she seemed dismissive and uninterested. Later, the third-party booking company contacted the hotel about our refund request. Betsy reportedly said the laundry facilities were available and that nobody had told her about the cleanliness issue. When I asked her directly whether she remembered our conversation about the machines and the room, she said she didn’t. That response was alarming and made us question how guest complaints are handled here. We’d chosen this hotel because laundry was listed as an amenity, but the machines didn’t work. If we’d known, we would have booked somewhere else. When we entered the room, there was hair in the shower, so it didn’t seem properly cleaned or inspected before we arrived. A Choice Hotels property should have clean rooms, working advertised amenities, responsive management, and honest customer service. In our experience, the hotel fell short on cleanliness, maintenance, guest satisfaction, professionalism, and accountability. What should have been a simple, comfortable stay became frustrating, and our legitimate concerns felt disregarded. There are plenty of other places to spend your money. I’d never stay here again or recommend it, even for free.

The lobby and our second-floor room both smelled amazing, and the staff were pleasant. The bed was pretty comfortable, and breakfast was decent. We were traveling to visit my wife’s terminally ill father during an incredibly difficult time for our family, and this hotel was clean and affordable. Other hotels nearby had raised their weekend prices a lot, while this one stayed within reach. It’s plainly a no-frills place without many amenities, but we didn’t need those for the trip. It exceeded what I expected and even outdid much more expensive hotels in the area. We had a very enjoyable stay despite the difficult circumstances.
