St John River Resort

My spouse and I booked this place in September, 2025, but when we got there it was deserted and in bad disrepair. We had to get our money back through our bank in the end. This place is a SCAM. Don't believe the ads or book this hotel!

Six weeks before our trip, I learned from a friend that the state had condemned the cabin until it was brought up to code. I'd booked it nine months ahead, and "management" had never contacted me. When I called the "resort," they offered a hotel room or a refund, so I chose the refund and the booking agency agreed. Love hotels then failed to send it. First they said cancellation was impossible, then told me to wait longer. After many calls between me, the booking agency, and love hotels, they agreed to refund 50%, but never did. They even charged a cleaning fee for a place I'd never set foot in, that garbage heap of a property.

The water smelled so strongly of rotten eggs that I wouldn't shower in it. I think it was sulfur. I brushed my teeth with bottled water instead. We were there for one night this fall, and the location worked perfectly for us, close to Fort Kent. Meagan was really welcoming, and the bed was comfortable. The room was just a bed, bath, and TV, though the duct tape around the window screen made a poor first impression when we pulled up. It was a little hard to find, tucked behind other buildings on the main road.

The manager?? clearly wasn't expecting us. When I pointed out the condition of the place, he snidely asked, "Well, are you always at your best?" I told him I wanted to cancel and left. The buildings were dilapidated, with boards hanging loose, and there wasn't even a sign by the location, which sits down a pothole filled dirt lane. The motel had been listed as being in Fort Kent, but it's actually ten miles away. After I told OYO about this nightmare booking, they charged my Visa for the unused room and refused to refund me. I'll never deal with this organization again. This is undoubtedly the worst booking experience I've ever had.
