Kimpton Shorebreak Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort

The location is a real plus, one block off A1A and the beach. Being away from the main road gives it a quieter, more relaxed feel. This is a lovely boutique hotel with two beautiful pools, a laid-back rooftop bar, and excellent service. My room was nice, with a big shower, huge TV, and complimentary bottled water. The lobby also has a nice selection of morning coffee. I'll definitely stay again.

The bikes ended up being our favorite thing. We used them every day to get around Fort Lauderdale, and the hotel is less than half a mile from the beach. We had a corner room with no guests on either side, and the rooms were exceptionally clean and nicely styled. The atmosphere has a 10/10 coastal boutique feel. We enjoyed the complimentary wine each day by the pool before dinner. Storage and counter space were my main complaint, since getting ready and keeping our things organized was tricky. There aren't smart TVs for Netflix or Hulu either, so we watched a show on a phone to end the evening, which wasn't ideal.

The rooftop is a popular feature, with great views, sun, food, TVs showing sports, and weekend DJ sets until 7 pm. Chairs can be hard to find because so many people use it. I was especially glad the hotel is dog friendly, even letting my dog come up to the rooftop pool area, though not into the pool. It's a quiet part of Fort Lauderdale, a bit away from the livelier area but still walkable. The room was okay, but the bathroom had very little counter space. We took the complimentary bikes for a ride. They're fairly standard, require an app, and include two hours before costing $10 an hour, with a small basket. Beach chairs were offered, though we didn't use them. I'd definitely stay here if you want to spend time outdoors with your dog.

The property itself is fun and super kitschy, with nice pools and a great location, but the staff and management were awful. We stayed four nights for work, and the TV never worked despite reporting it to the front desk. Dust was excessive, caked on the vents and behind the TV. The front desk attendant said the resort fee would be waived and management would add points to my account. They waived the fee, but the points never arrived, even after I opened a case with IHG. The man working the desk spent each evening chatting on his personal phone, cursing and gossiping with friends. The Kimpton Happy Hour wasn't the usual offering either, just one glass of red or white wine at the bar. Calling the hotel was pointless since they never answer. They expect texts, and good luck getting a reply. Even IHG Guest Support couldn't reach them. If they improved cleanliness and hired capable staff, this could be a top-notch place.
