Ocean Mile Hotel

The location is hard to beat for the price: the beach is about a 10-minute walk away, McDonald’s is three minutes away, and there’s parking on site. We had a spacious double queen room with clean, comfortable beds, a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, TV, ice bucket, drawers, and a high table with two chairs. The bathroom felt modern, with great lighting and a handy shelf in the shower. The pool area was lovely too, with music playing. Wall marks look like ordinary wear with age and didn’t bother us. A couple of things to know: outside noise carries into the room, and the AC is loud. Earplugs worked for me, and the rest of my family slept fine without them. We booked through Booking.com and didn’t get a reply when we messaged about luggage storage, but calling worked on our second try. They offered an 11 AM early check-in for an extra $25. The $5 key deposit is returned if you check out while the office is open and hand your key back. Office hours seem to vary around 9 to 9, and the family who runs the place was flexible about checkout. We’d happily recommend it.

For a fraction of what the big beachfront hotels charge, this place is right across the street from the beach and gave us much better service than I expected. It’s a family-run hotel, and the staff clearly care about making guests comfortable. Our room was clean and comfortable, though renovations and updates are still underway. I accidentally left something valuable behind after checking out. When I called from Texas, the staff found it and returned it to me. They could have easily said it wasn’t there, but they were honest and helpful. I’d gladly save a few bucks and stay here again.

I knew this was a budget hotel, but I still hoped for a better room and a little more attention. At check-in, the receptionist and his friend were having lunch or dinner. He licked his fingers, asked my name, then asked for my ID and cash deposit. He offered the Wi-Fi password, which was under their food on the counter. The room was dusty, with hair and dust bunnies between the bed and headboard. Two outlets on the extension cord between the beds didn’t work, and the microwave was so dirty it seemed like a health hazard. There were only towels, no washcloths, plus a small floor towel. If you have an early flight, arrange checkout with someone ahead of time because nobody may be there. They take the room deposit in cash and make a copy of your ID. I’d ask for that copy so you can dispose of it yourself.

We’d come back. The rooms were about what we paid for, and the plants around the property were gorgeous. The place seemed to be kept up with real effort, and the front desk man was kind and easygoing. First thing we noticed was all the available parking, which was such a nice surprise.
