I’ve stayed here many times over the years to visit family nearby, but my latest visit was the last straw. The DoubleTree cookies are doing a lot of work to prop up a dated, worn-out hotel. This was a truly upsetting stay, and management never followed up afterward. I paid about $500 a night for the “presidential” “suite.” The Digital Key opened what looked like a regular one-bed King-sized room, which was a shock. It was extremely worn: peeling paint in the cramped bathroom and gashes on the connecting door. Those might be understandable in a $150-per-night room, but not in what’s meant to be the hotel’s flagship accommodation. It was messy, too. Someone’s leftover sock was wedged between the wall and an ottoman. I only realized the “Presidential” part was in the adjoining room after checking in the app that the suite was supposed to be much larger, then calling the front desk to sort it out. The desk never called me. The living room was old, and the water looked as if it hadn’t been replaced in a while, but at least that room was clearly a suite. After the stay, I emailed management with these concerns and asked for a partial refund. I thought that was fair since my key only opened the bedroom and bathroom portion, which was more or less the same size as rooms I’d paid considerably less for before. I got nothing back, not even an automatic message saying they’d received my request. That was upsetting. I’ve been lucky enough to stay in many suites across the Hilton and Marriott portfolios, and this was easily the worst. It’s put me off staying here again. Consider splurging elsewhere.

They were renovating, but we got a renovated room and everything was perfect. The room and bathroom were clean, the restaurant food was good, and the service was great. We arrived before check-in, and the hotel driver kindly took us to the bus stop. The hotel is right by the highway, which was convenient. After reading the reviews, I expected worse. No complaints, and I’d stay again.

The room was spacious and comfortable, and I had no complaints apart from the sound carrying. I could hear my son's laughter from the elevator area while he was in our room, so I’ll keep that in mind. I’d read the negative reviews and was prepared for a bad stay, but it turned out well. I barely interacted with the front desk, though the digital key didn’t work and I had to get a card. The microwave is in the lobby.

The location worked great for me, especially with the George Washington Bridge so close and easy to reach. I only needed one night while traveling to the city, and they were nice about my late check-in. The TV froze when we turned it on, but someone came right away and fixed it quickly. The staff I dealt with were very nice, and breakfast had a good variety. The AC wasn’t as cool as I expected, but it was okay for one night. I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone needing a stay in Fort Lee or near the city.

Getting around from here was a real problem. You can’t walk anywhere without first accessing the highway. I had to take an Uber one of my three days because the driver for the free hourly hotel shuttle didn’t show up for the 10 a.m. pickup, even though I’d arrived 15 minutes early. My Uber driver, who was supposed to arrive within 8 minutes, took 15 minutes to reach the hotel because of traffic, and said most Uber drivers honestly wouldn’t accept the ride. I wish I’d known so I could have planned better. The free cookie on arrival was nice, and the staff were generally pleasant, but those were about the only positives. Our bathroom had a dirty towel that didn’t seem properly washed, and the shower smelled strongly of chlorine. The hotel was under renovation, with banging every morning at 7 a.m. Our room, 619, was also next to what we thought was the staff utility room. The ice machine was off, so I had to go to the 12th floor for ice. Highway honking early in the morning made it hard to sleep, especially if you’re a light sleeper. The coffee maker had marks that looked like ketchup, and the mini-fridge was really a freezer. All my bottled water froze.
