Kingsley Inn

The place has a lovely, distinctive character, and I’d consider coming back, though the amenities are limited. We expected the bar to be open, but it wasn’t, and the refreshments they offered were gone. The coffee setup was much more minimal than the description suggested. It’s now run as an AirBNB instead of a full-service inn, and I missed having a front desk. We got clear confirmation and instructions, but the confirmation listed the wrong room, so we couldn’t get into the room it named. We called and someone got back to us shortly after, though those few minutes were stressful.

We left after the first night of our three-night stay. They refunded us, which was great, but the woman on the phone was rude. The room was clean, the one good thing about it. The carpet was stained and worn, wallpaper was peeling at nearly every seam, and the bedding was stained and worn and wouldn’t stay on the mattress. There was no bathroom counter space. No on-site staff, breakfast, microwave, or in-room fridge either, just a shared refrigerator down the hall.

My colleagues suggested The Kingsley Inn when I was traveling here for business and wanted to try somewhere other than a regular hotel. I was really impressed by the history still in the building, and the rooms were comfortable. It’s a gem, and I’ll book there on my next trip to the area.

I stayed here for a wedding and only noticed I’d left my wedding outfits behind when I was nearly home. I called and left a message to ask whether they’d found them. They contacted me the next day, took my details, and mailed the clothes the day after that. They arrived within two days of being sent. Some of what I’d forgotten had a lot of sentimental value, so I’m very grateful to have it back. The stay and staff were great, and they went out of their way to help. They’re truly kind people, and this is a wonderful place to stay.
