The check-in kiosk was my first problem. I'd have preferred an in-person desk clerk, and the speaker audio was muddy, so I struggled to understand the attendant's thick accent. There was only one elevator, in the middle of the motel. With my bad knee, stairs are hard, so I asked to move to a first-floor unit and was told no. From room 204, I had to take the elevator and walk the length of the motel, carrying all my luggage. The AC unit had mold in it, and one pillow had what looked like a sweat or drool stain. Cell reception was bad because the building is basically a nuclear bomb shelter. I could see why everyone was out on the balcony talking on their phones. The next-door neighbor is a countertop or tile shop, and you can hear the table saws. This isn't the worst Ft. Walton Beach motel I've stayed at, but it's far below modern standards.

The mold smell hit me as soon as I opened the door, and when I turned on the light, live cockroaches were crawling across the floor. It was an active infestation, not just one or two. I lasted less than two minutes before going straight back to the lobby in disgust. The check-in desk is a video chat kiosk. I explained that I have allergies and couldn't stay in a room with toxic mold and a cockroach infestation. They refused a refund and offered to move me to another room, but I didn't want to risk exposing myself or my kids to more filth and bugs. After 20 minutes arguing at the kiosk while my children waited in the car, they grudgingly said they'd refund two nights but charge me for one, even though I was there for less than five minutes. Expedia has had a hard time helping because the motel falsely claimed I stayed in the room for hours. That is an outright lie, easily disproved by my being back in the lobby within five minutes. The online listing badly misrepresents a place that I found unsafe and unsanitary. The smell, visible roaches, and lack of customer service make it a health hazard, not a hotel. Florida state law is crystal clear about infestations and unsafe lodging, and this place violates every standard. This is the worst hotel experience of my life. Avoid it at all costs. It's filthy, dishonest, and dangerous, and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy. The fact it's still operating is a disgrace. I'll be contacting the Florida State Health Department next. Absolutely abhorrent conditions.

I had the worst sleep. The beds are hard as rocks, and the covers are as thin as a sheet of ice, literally. The room was okay, but the sheets had been used. The only thing I enjoyed was the nice hot shower. It was awful to shower and then lie down on that hard bed. This hotel isn't for older people, and I highly doubt I'd book again.

The stay was fine until checkout, but watch out for the $50 deposit. I booked online and checked in at a kiosk, then was told about the extra deposit, which I was supposed to get back after checking out and returning the key. Three days later, I called to ask about it and was told I wasn't getting it back because the sheets were soiled. We stayed four days, slept in the bed, and certainly didn't wet it. Sure, the sheets had been slept in for four days and needed washing, but I'm 100% sure that's all it was. The rooms are cheap, but I got SCAMMED out of 50 bucks! POINT BLANK SCAMMED! It's up to you whether to take the chance or not mind losing $50.

The park across the street was the one good thing about our stay. The room was filthy, with roaches, so we had to go to Walmart for bug spray and other supplies. Housekeeping also came in despite our Do Not Disturb sign. When we asked about it, we were told they enter every three days regardless of the sign. If they clean that often, why was the room dirty from the start?
