Ayres Hotel Fountain Valley - Huntington Beach

The one thing that surprised us was being told we couldn't use a table in the breakfast area to play cards, even though nobody was there. Every other hotel we've stayed at has let us play games there. Apart from that, it was a great stay: a safe location, clean and nice rooms, comfortable beds and pillows, and super friendly staff.

The room had a moldy smell coming from the air conditioner, and when I told the front desk we'd booked a king but been given a queen, she argued and said I was mistaken. The gentleman who checked us in was great, though. The staff member I spoke with about the bed was rude and unprofessional.

We came here unexpectedly for my husband's appointment at Doheny Eye Medical Center, about 150 miles from home. We had phone charging cords but no USB adapter, and the only port we found was behind the TV. It charged very slowly and only while the TV was on, so our phones were nearly dead by morning. There's not a USB port anywhere else in the room, which is odd these days. Even the older hotel across the way, where we stayed before, had ports on the lamp bases, though this hotel is much nicer inside. I'll put an adapter in the car for emergencies next time. The breakfast was really nice, with everything hot and fresh. The hotel was clean, and the staff were kind, helpful, and professional. We liked it and will stay again when we need to.

There wasn't much within walking distance, but the hotel itself was a good stay. The rooms were spacious and clean, breakfast had several good options, and I couldn't find anything to complain about. Staff were welcoming and friendly, and the bar was nice with attentive service.
