Rodeway Inn Davenport - Maingate South

The beds and pillows were very comfortable, the sheets and towels spotless, and we slept well. Our room had two beds, a table and chairs, and was reasonably clean, though not spotless. The public restroom was spotless too, and the WiFi worked well in both our room and the lobby. We were there to sleep and shower, and for that purpose it worked well at a reasonable price. This is an older property that’s clearly being updated. The lobby and breakfast room have a modern geometric look and a beautiful porcelain tile floor, though the lobby furniture needs replacing. The new decor gave me pause when we first came in, but seeing the rest of the place reassured me. The carpets need cleaning; the manager said that was about to start with new equipment, though it would take a while with so many rooms. That’s why I can’t rate cleanliness higher. Breakfast was good, with scrambled egg rounds, link sausage or bacon, cereals, breads, coffee, juices, and oranges and apples. The coffee was okay but not very strong, even the Bold selection. We appreciate having protein at breakfast, so it suited us. There are 10 tables and plenty of chairs, plus a high chair and a TV. Weekday breakfast ends at 9. The front entrance has stairs and no ramp, which was daunting when we were dropped off. There is a ramp at the back entrance, but the nearby door is heavy and hard to hold open without free hands. It may be manageable with someone helping if mobility is limited. We had a refrigerator, microwave, hair dryer, iron, ironing board, and plenty of wooden hangers. We didn’t use most of them because we checked in late and were busy all morning, so I can’t say if they worked. The hair dryer did work, and the fridge was clean and seemed cold. Staff were helpful and generally friendly. Amy did a wonderful job sorting out snags with our somewhat complicated reservation, and brought towels to our room late at night so we didn’t have to go get them. Christine, the manager, knows the property well and took time to talk with us about the area and the improvements underway. She has a lot of practical experience here, and we appreciated how long she’s been at this motel. The desk clerks we saw were conscientious, kept things clean, and checked people in without issues. We felt welcomed and valued, and saw no drama or unhappy guests while working in the public space. We’d stay here again.

I’m from South Korea and stayed for 3 days. The room was clean, and breakfast was simple but nice. The staff were kind, especially housekeeping, which made me happy when I came back from the parks and shopping. It was good for the price.

Check the front desk hours with the hotel before you go. At 8 pm we got a call saying the desk would close at 10, so we had to rearrange our plans and rush over within two hours. The room was below average for this class of hotel. The deadbolt didn’t work, the TV wouldn’t turn on, and the room phone was dead. They didn’t give us the WiFi password, so I can’t say if the internet worked. On the plus side, the AC worked and there was hot water. The room was reasonably clean, although we found a rubber glove by the front door. A BurgerKing and a Waffle House are within a hundred yards, but around 3 am someone was blasting music in the Waffle House parking lot, making it hard to sleep. They also charge a fee if you don’t return the room key at checkout. I didn’t like this weekend’s stay. Maybe another room would have been better.

Christina and Ben, the managers, were both super friendly, and we enjoyed the free breakfast every day. We stayed for 6 days on vacation and had a five star experience. There was something new at breakfast each day, and the housekeepers did a great job keeping the rooms clean. Free WiFi, plus a microwave and refrigerator, were a big help with our toddler who needed milk. If I come back to Davenport FL, I’ll stay here again. Thanks, Quality Inn.
