Red Fox Motel

Good location, clean rooms and fair prices. The staff were helpful and friendly too.

Otherwise, it was okay, but the driveway isn’t great to get in or out of, and the location was just so-so. I only took off a star because they charged me $103 on top of the $98 room charge for “incidentals,” which felt ridiculous. There was only one usable plug in the room. The wall USB ports didn’t work, and charging my phone meant unplugging the AC, microwave or fridge and choosing which one to go without.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Red Fox for over two months. The room was okay, but there were lots of ants, and the price kept going up. I drive a small car, yet sometimes couldn’t find parking because an older couple who’ve been there forever have three cars and park them wherever they want. The old lady complained about everything, including us smoking outside. When my girlfriend was showering, the guy who cleans rooms walked right in, saying he needed to clean. Another time, at 3 a.m., she knocked on our door and said we were too loud while we were having sex. It got to be too much. After I spoke with an older man named John, I left. My girlfriend had three packages delivered and they were stolen. John said the maintenance guy steals. We went to Guard up the street, which was much better and cheaper. Another couple from Red Fox showed up there too, and I told them it was better. There’s also a terrible smell from raw sewage being dumped into the river. When it rains, the brown water smells horrible. I’ve stayed in some bad places, including Budget Inn Westwood and Farrington Boston, but this was the worst. The real owners don’t own Red Fox, it’s the older couple. I spoke to the owner’s father, who was a really nice guy. He said he’d wanted the older couple out four months ago, but the son runs things now. With football season coming, go to Guard, Budget Inn Westwood or anywhere else.

The staff were welcoming and helpful, and the room was very clean. It’s an older, no-frills motel with few outlets, but the price was reasonable and it was better than I expected. We had a basic place to sleep and shower, within walking distance of Gillette Stadium, which suited what we were in town for. The one big miss was the Wi-Fi. It didn’t reach our room, number 19. I’d consider it if I traveled alone and needed to be in the area. I usually come with my two sons, though, and we need a suite-style room with more space, so I probably wouldn’t return. Just don’t expect a Hilton or a big-name hotel.
