UPDATE: I wasn’t trying to get anything free or discounted with this review. They listened to our concerns and really made things right, and I’m so grateful. I still can’t believe how much they did for us. I feel heard and appreciate it so much. The front desk staff welcomed us when we arrived and whenever my husband dropped me off. But with my 25-plus years in customer service and management, I don’t think front desk staff should be on personal phones. Some seemed short on care and concern when things went wrong or we needed help. I was disappointed by room service. I’m somewhat handicapped and have trouble getting around, so I depended on it for dinner. They didn’t call my room to say an item I ordered wasn’t available. After I called, then waited an hour, they said they had tried to reach me by text and email. Those messages went to my husband’s phone while he was out of town in a meeting, so I never saw them. They still charged me for the ice cream in the order despite all the trouble. It was my first time ever ordering room service, and it was a real letdown. The bathroom walls and window also needed regular spot cleaning, since they made the room look dirty even if the rest was clean. A small table and two chairs would have made eating in the room more comfortable. The online photos made the hotel look amazing but didn’t show the whole room. My husband and I married at the end of 2019, then COVID happened, so we never had a honeymoon. This trip was meant to celebrate our sixth anniversary, and we hoped for a fancier, first-class experience. It didn’t meet those expectations. We chose not to stay again because it cost too much for the level of care and concern, and because there was nowhere to eat in the room.

The location was a big reason we’d stay again, right in the middle of everything. The hotel is beautiful and thoughtfully put together, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. The wooden hallways and rooms look nice, but sound carries everywhere. We could hear hallway conversations and children running around even at 2 or 3 in the morning. Breakfast was amusing, too, with prices like a five-star hotel in a four-star atmosphere. The stay was fine, but the hotel itself didn’t give us a reason to plan another trip.

The staff were friendly, personable, professional, and incredibly helpful. The Lobby Bar is lovely, and we enjoyed the food at The Wellhouse. We rented a cabana by the pool, which was perfect, with easy pool access and seating for eight. Our room was comfortable and roomy, with good storage, comfortable beds, a window seat for reading or people watching, a roomy bathroom, and amazing robes. The Albert Hotel is beautiful and right in downtown Fredericksburg, close to everything. We can’t wait to return.

For our anniversary, we had a great stay at the Albert Hotel. The rooms are beautiful, and the building has lovely places to sit and local art on display. We appreciated the complimentary sparkling wine. The Main Street location made it easy to walk to everything we wanted to see, including the 290 Wine Shuttle, about ten minutes away. The pool is small, but private and classy, with a full bar attached. The Wellhouse restaurant was convenient and delicious. We also booked separate massages at The Spa and loved them, though limited staffing meant we couldn’t get a couples massage. A few things could make the rooms more comfortable: more seating and table space, better lighting, especially in the below-ground rooms, and nightstands at bed height. I used the provided make up mirror, but the lighting still felt inadequate. Some wall art would help, and the soundproofing could be better. I also noticed there was no assistance bar in the shower. It’s a beautiful young hotel, and I’d recommend it for its style and convenient location.

At these prices, this was the worst hotel I’ve stayed in. We paid over $400 a night, including $425 for weekend nights, and got very little for it. The mattresses were comfortable, most of the workers were pleasant, and the water got hot. Those were the main positives. The rooms were dark, with little natural light from a single window. My parents were in the basement and got almost none. I’ve stayed in an actual cave hotel in Turkey that had better lighting. There’s no in-room information about services or costs except for room service. The minibar isn’t free, but there were no prices listed and nobody told me at check-in. It didn’t feel family friendly for young children, with fewer amenities than an ordinary hotel. Housekeeping was terrible. They didn’t replace the water bottles, and I got conflicting answers about whether I had to request that or whether it happened daily. They didn’t vacuum the rug, and one day they didn’t show up at all. I’ve never had that happen at any other hotel. Sound insulation was also awful. We could clearly hear normal hallway conversations and people walking past our door. There were wooden benches but no real chairs or desks, so I don’t know where guests are supposed to work. The front desk staff were friendly but lacked basic working knowledge, and dealing with them was a constant frustration. They didn’t keep track of when people stopped using valet, and generally didn’t seem to know what was going on. I’ve stayed in dirtier places and places with rude, incompetent workers, but they cost closer to $30 a night, not over $400. That’s why I call this the worst hotel I’ve stayed in.
