Carriage House Fredericksburg

Melanie, you’re awesome. We loved staying here, especially being so close to Main Street, a muffin shop, and a pie shop with pies to die for. The whole place was one big room, with a huge, comfortable bed, a big sofa, and a kitchenette stocked with a Keurig, microwave, mini fridge, and toaster, everything we needed for a few nights. The French country blue and white decor with a touch of yellow was impeccable. It’s the cutest and most comfortable place we’ve ever stayed!

The Cottage House felt like stepping back into a quaint English cottage, and the decor fit the theme beautifully. There was an overstuffed sofa, a humongous bed, and we got lucky with perfect weather for an evening in the outside courtyard. My cousin and I chose it for a girls-only weekend, and the neighborhood was quiet with little traffic, while Main St. was still close by. We had no issue with the owners being less hands-on since we didn’t expect much interaction. The website showed the high bed, and step stools were provided. Anyone who’s lived in Texas knows a window AC unit runs constantly in the heat and usually isn’t quiet. We had no complaints and think the place deserves its five stars.

The only thing that took away from the charm for me was breakfast. Instead of a traditional homemade B&B meal, guests get a voucher for one of four places around town, and none of the four offerings may appeal to you. The cottages themselves are lovely, thoughtfully decorated, and stocked well. There were even a couple of cookies waiting on the table. The location is right in the heart of town, close to the historic downtown district, and the cottages seem like inviting places for a night, a weekend, or even a week.

We stayed in the tank house and had a fabulous bed with enough pillows for anyone. There are shady little corners with a fireplace, and the cabins and patios feel more like home than a motel or hotel. The owners are friendly and helpful, and the place is so peaceful. Historic downtown is only two blocks away. As an ex Navy guy, I was especially interested that the Admiral Nimitz World War I I museum is about two blocks away too. The prices are very reasonable for what you get. If I’m in Fredericksburg again, I’ll stay here. I love it.
