Econo Lodge Fredericksburg

For a two-star place, it was clean. The tub and sink were in good shape, and the AC and heater ran quietly. The doors are pretty banged up, though. Breakfast was basic packaged stuff: Great Value donut rings, oatmeal packets, little yogurt cups, Sunny D orange juice cups, and a pot of hot coffee.

The rooms were honestly among the cleanest affordable hotel rooms in this area. But my partner and I were charged a pet fee for our service animal. We tried explaining that to the front desk, but she didn’t seem to understand and charged the card on file anyway. That was frustrating, and the bank fortunately refunded us. The place accepts pets, but our experience didn’t feel service-animal friendly.

I wouldn’t pay twice the agreed price, so I refused the extra $54 they wanted to change the reservation. I’d booked one night at the Econo Lodge in Fredericksburg, Texas through Expedia, but at check-in they said it was for the next day. I’m confident that isn’t the date I chose. Econo Lodge said they could correct it only with the additional charge, while Expedia told me the hotel’s policies meant they couldn’t make changes. Neither offered meaningful help or flexibility. As a loyal customer, I found the whole thing frustrating and unacceptable. Both the hotel and booking platform should show better service and accountability.

The inside is cared for better than the outside, which is unusual for an affordable motel. The econo lodge has an authentic, rustic feel that made me comfortable almost right away. The staff handling check-ins and getting breakfast ready were cordial. I’d absolutely stay here again.
