Hampton Inn & Suites Fredericksburg

The town is charming enough to need several days of exploring, and I enjoyed my room as well. The property is in a fantastic spot, with many shops and places to eat within easy walking distance. GM Arlene was a particular joy.

Breakfast was a real highlight. It changed between our two mornings, with waffles, scones, eggs, sausage patties, biscuits and gravy, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, fruit and toppings one day, then country potatoes, little omelettes and link sausage the next. Better than the breakfasts I’ve seen at other places since Covid. Housekeeping also cleaned our room after just one day, which was a nice surprise. We had a lovely view of the Hill Country from the third floor, and the price was good. Downtown shopping is only two blocks away. For supplies, the Dollar Store across the street has pretty much everything, including wine and beer, and the small shop behind the check-in counter has snacks and red wine, though no white. The pool looked beautiful and the hot tub was hot, but I didn’t use it. Even with the nice landscaping and my aching feet, I didn’t feel safe using it alone as a middle-aged woman so close to Hwy 290. The gym equipment was a strange choice too. Unless you’re taking shuttles to wine tours, you’ll walk at least 1 1/2 miles, so two treadmills seem unnecessary. I’d have preferred weights or kettlebells to the awkward heavy balls. The TV had no Prime or Netflix login and couldn’t cast from a device. I wish I’d brought an HDMI cable, since the commercials went on forever. I was fine with my iPad, but my mother in law had forgotten a book. The upside was we ended up talking a lot. Parking was plentiful and convenient midweek, including downtown. Locals say Fredericksburg is a different town on weekends, so Tuesday through Thursday worked well for us.

We got a last-minute reservation, and check-in was quick and easy. The lobby and spacious room were clean, the bed was very comfortable, and there was plenty of parking. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the location was great. The fitness room was a little disappointing, while breakfast was the usual Hampton Inn selection.

It’s easy to get around on foot from this spot on main street, with restaurants, shops, and museums nearby. The service was top tier, and our room was very clean. I’ll definitely come back on another trip.
