Great bourbon and a great vibe. My flight was meant to be half-ounce pours, but the bartender poured heavily. The tasting room's service and interior design were incredible.
The accommodations are fair, but you can get pretty much the same thing at another local hotel. Breakfast is fine, though nearby breakfast restaurants offer the same sort of thing. The tasting room is the main reason to book here, honestly, so call ahead. If it has been rented for an event, other guests can't use it. They won't tell you until the morning of your booking, when you're already committed to paying the full stay.
The basement bar felt warm and inviting. We had expertly made cocktails and dinner there, and a traveling acting troupe was holding the opening celebration for its upcoming production of A Christmas Carol. Breakfast was included, was great, and came with impeccable service. After checking out, we had a lovely conversation before leaving. We also walked to the nearby Hyperion Coffee, just a couple of blocks away. The Ironclad Inn is a beautiful historic property. The owner and staff were friendly and provided top-notch service to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. We have a service dog, and they were incredibly accommodating, even providing a pet bed and a new ball and offering a water bowl. Bottled and cold water and fresh fruit are available in the lobby, and there's a cozy den and seating on the front porch. We highly recommend the Ironclad Inn for a stay in Fredericksburg.
The beds were super comfortable, and breakfast was delicious. This cute place is conveniently located near downtown restaurants. We arrived after the front doors had closed, but they'd sent very clear instructions by email and voicemail. While I was looking for the email, an employee who was heading out asked if we were checking in and showed us the side door.
The Bourbon Tasting room downstairs was fabulous, with great drinks, food, service, and atmosphere. Fantastic! Our stay was delightful, and we'd absolutely come back. The inn had lovely Old World charm and a cozy feel. Our room had lots of character, and thoughtful touches like mints and plenty of bottled water made us feel welcome. The bed and pillows were incredibly comfortable, and the thick, luxurious towels and washcloths felt like a treat. Breakfast was a highlight too, delicious, plentiful, and beautifully presented. A few little things could make the place even better. The room on the right as you first enter had a few cobwebs in the window, so a quick tidy would help. The room and bathroom are small, though still charming. I liked the vintage-style bathroom light, but a brighter bulb would help with makeup. A shelf or small table for toiletries and clean clothes while showering would be useful, as would a towel rack outside the tub. The water pressure could also be a bit stronger.
