The Publisher, Downtown Fredericksburg, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

I was worried I’d made a mistake booking the “cute” and “trustworthy Marriott” after check in got delayed by several events unrelated to my stay. I was very wrong. The visit went beyond what I expected when booking, and I’ve recommended the hotel to friends and family since. The room was quiet, remarkably clean, and in excellent condition. The lobby and rooms have stylish, well chosen furniture and fixtures. The bathroom had Frette robes and Marriott mid range soaps that smelled amazing, while a different signature scent in the hallways and lobby added to the atmosphere. I did wish there were laundry bags, slippers, and a few other small amenities. The staff was okay, but Rigo was the exception and made us want to return. His care and hospitality were outstanding, even compared with some high end resorts. He changed the feel of our stay by being so considerate and going well beyond what I expected. The steakhouse was top notch too, with excellent service and attention to detail. The potatoes at both dinner and breakfast were the best I’ve ever had, oddly enough but true. They had distinct flavors and were cooked perfectly. Between the hotel and dining, the quality and service exceeded our expectations for the price.

Biz at the front desk deserves a special mention for being cheerful and accommodating every day. The whole team was warm and professional, and service was excellent throughout. We also enjoyed breakfast both mornings, it was delicious. At the Publisher Tribute Hotel, our room was spotless, comfortable, and beautifully furnished, with thoughtful details in the decor and amenities. We had a wonderful stay and would gladly return.

The food and drinks were delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented, and the whole staff was friendly and helpful. The location made everything convenient, with a lovely feel to the place. From the moment we arrived, The Publisher felt clean, beautiful, and welcoming, and our stay was amazing. Matthew deserves special credit: he was attentive, professional, kind, and genuinely warm. He went out of his way to make things seamless and special, and his customer service was next level. The service overall was amazing and made the whole visit feel easy and stress free.

I’ll always remember how Rigo helped us during an awful night in October. My husband and I were in North Carolina for an event, but our Airbnb was completely unlivable, with a black widow, bugs, and mold. We had to leave at midnight with nowhere to go. We drove 5-6 hours north toward home, exhausted and desperate to find somewhere to rest. Around 5:30-6:00am, I called The Publisher as a last resort and explained that we only needed a room for a few hours. Rigo immediately helped us. When my husband went to pay, Rigo said he wouldn’t charge the full price since we’d only be there 8-9 hours to rest. That kind of compassion and customer service feels rare these days. The room was gorgeous, the beds were a dream and we fell asleep within minutes, and the shower was divine. The blackout curtains were just what we needed since we were going to bed at sunrise. Rigo went so far above and beyond that he saved our sanity and our exhausted bodies. It was a memorable bright spot in a really stressful moment. He deserves a raise, he’s human gold.
