Red Roof Inn Freehold

I had trouble with the TV, called the front desk, and Shah came right to my room to sort it out. He was on point and helped fast. I feel for people doing jobs like his that pay so little compared with the area’s cost of living. Thank you, Shah.

I’ve never felt more unwelcome at a hotel. The lobby was locked, with a sign saying to call someone to let you in. I called at least 6 times before anyone answered, then they reluctantly opened the door and asked, “Why are you here?” I explained we had a reservation on booking.com. Check-in took 10 minutes, without exaggeration, and after asking for my ID and card, the person said nothing through the process and just handed me a key. For 130 dollars, the room was subpar. The bed was uncomfortable, the TV didn’t work, and there was a stale spice smell. I asked for another room, but was told no even though the hotel wasn’t full. They also refused a late checkout, knocked several times about an hour before checkout to ask if we’d be leaving, and warned there’d be a charge if we left later than checkout time. I stayed only because it was the sole place in the area with availability. Terrible experience.

After riding around for a hour, trying to figure out where I could stay, Red Roof Inn came through at the last minute. Another pet friendly hotel had turned my service dog and me away when he barked twice at check-in. I’d booked there because my usual hotel was remodeling, with floors to be sanded and stained. Red Roof Inn let me book all 3 days right away at a fair price. When I called about my service dog, they went the extra mile and put us on the ground floor beside an area where I could walk him. Such a nice surprise after what happened. The owner was very nice, and the room was neat, clean, and looked recently remodeled.
