Best Western Plus French Lick

The breakfast was the one good part. The kids also liked the pool, though the water was on the cold side. We booked a room with a pullout sofa because we have small children, but at check-in they gave us a standard room. Staff insisted we hadn't booked the sofa room and said we could leave if we didn't like it. They wanted $25 per night for a rollaway bed. The room was still dirty, and when we asked for money back because of the experience, staff refused our complaint. We won't stay at another Best Western.

Breakfast was out of this world, and the Nestle Vitality dispenser was especially handy since I came down with a cold. The owner and receptionist were friendly and honest, too. The place was super clean, and it felt perfect for a family. 100 times infinity out of 10. I slept from 8-9 without interruptions, even with The Great Outdoors playing at volume 40 as I fell asleep. At a few recent hotels, including Holiday Inn Express and Courtyard by Mariott, fire alarms had been pulled, so this stay went very smoothly. My small gripes are the pool hours and how breakfast was labelled. Otherwise, this is probably the best hotel I've stayed at.

There was a light flashing every minute or so overnight, bright enough to make it hard to fall asleep and stay asleep. The sheets and carpet had stains, and the walls looked like they needed cleaning, even though the rooms were clean enough. For the quality, I thought the price was high. The place also lacked the friendly feel you get at many hotels. I'd probably choose somewhere else next time.

Dead flies were sitting on the bedroom desk, and the room didn't look freshened or prepared for us. There were only two towels, despite the booking being for four people, and we had to wait for linens for the pullout couch. Since we checked in after 11 p.m. and just wanted to sleep, that was a real hassle. We'd reserved a King Suite for four nearly a year ahead, with a separate living room and pullout couch. They tried to give me a double queen instead, which costs quite differently from what I'd paid. Maybe it was an honest mistake, but the stay didn't meet what I consider the bare minimum.
