Bird Rock Hotel

We had a great Valentine’s stay. They left us sweets and a rose, which was such a nice touch. The rooms are super cute, the bathrooms were clean, and you can get to almost everything from here. I’d definitely recommend it for a fun weekend away.

The Cypress room on the third floor was just right for us, with a queen bed, coffee maker, microwave, and comfy robes. There’s plenty of room in the bathroom too, including a spacious shower, and coffee and tea are available downstairs. Getting into the room was simple with the code they sent ahead. We arrived two hours before check-in hoping to leave our bags and go for a walk. No one was at the desk, but management replied right away when I wrote to them and let us check in early. We appreciated how quickly they handled it. We only had carry-ons, so the three flights of stairs weren’t an issue for us, though people bringing larger bags should be prepared for that. It was a bit pricey, but the location made it worth it. I’d recommend it as an option in Friday Harbor.

The deck was nice, and the place is centrally located on top of a hill. It’s a beautiful building, though the original style hasn’t really been maintained and the inside feels pretty generic. The shared bathroom was fine once you get used to the locks. The beds were lumpy and the walls are really thin. They only provide coffee and tea, no food. Kinda pricey.

The location is hard to beat, right in the center of town and just around the corner from Spring Street and its little shops. It’s in a historic building, and I really liked the security and check-in setup, with codes sent automatically and no staff on-site. Bikes and helmets are available free, too. Laura was able to let me check in early since my room was ready, which I appreciated after arriving early in the day. The room was darling, clean, and nicely furnished, with a small outdoor sitting spot. Some rooms face the parking lot, so don’t expect a view, but sitting in the sunshine after a long flight was lovely. I’ve stayed in more hotels than I can count, and this one was terrific. I’ll absolutely come back to San Juan and stay here again.
