Gateway Inn on N Shenandoah Ave was a convenient, affordable base for exploring the Shenandoah Valley. The rooms were clean, the staff friendly, and it’s a great little find in Front Royal. I’d stay again without hesitation. Five stars!

Gateway Inn is smaller than Budget Inn, but I found it much nicer and more peaceful, and it cost less. The people there were super nice. They do room checks every Wednesday, but I’d definitely go back and recommend it. The room and beds were clean, and there were no bed bugs or roaches at all, even though Gateway Inn doesn’t have good reviews.

The outside looks good, but the rooms are very old and poorly kept. Cleanliness doesn’t seem to be a priority.

It was pretty late, I had nowhere else I knew to go, and I couldn’t get my money back, so I stayed. The room was dirty and full of flies, with no shampoo or conditioner. The online booking said pets were allowed, but this place wasn’t pet friendly at all. I had to leave my dog in the car and barely slept. I usually like a humble motor inn, but this one was awful. Terrible stay.

I booked early through hotels dot com for a reunion at RMA and was happy with the good rate since I’m not very picky about a place to sleep. Gateway inn then cancelled my reservation, which had already been paid in full, during a high tourist weekend. It felt cynical and shady.
