This is a stopover, not a five-star resort, and the full parking lot made me think it must be decent. The staff were professional and courteous, and the rooms and sheets were clean, which are the two things I care about most. I’d stay again and again if I were back up that way.

The property is run down and nasty, with very sketchy people hanging around. I wouldn’t stay there. I tried four times to reach the manager about being charged for two rooms, but he was always “out” and had the clerk relay messages. He never called me back. I wasn’t there myself. I called what I thought was the front desk to add a night for a friend, but got sent to the reservation line. It was right at the 11 a.m. checkout time, so I was rushed. I paid through the reservation system and got a confirmation number, yet the hotel manager told my friend she couldn’t stay another night. I was then told I couldn’t get a refund. I’m out about $180 for nothing.

The room was very clean apart from a broken chair, and I’d stay there again. It’s in a very convenient spot for Shenandoah National Park. I do wish breakfast had more choices, like eggs and sausage.

We used online self check-in, so the only service interaction was being handed a room key. This is a Super 8, a two-star hotel that might hope to be a three-star. Last year, around the same week, I paid $82.60 for a room. This year it was $176.97. My notes from last year said many others had done the same near Skyline Drive. We decided we won’t come to Front Royal again because of the price. It feels like price gouging people who visit for the fall foliage, possibly tied to the lodging, restaurant, and travel association many belong to in that part of the state.

There was lots of floor space, enough that the room could work as a family room with two more beds. The rooms were clean, the water pressure was good, and the shower was nice. The AC worked really well. I didn’t try the breakfast, though breakfast was available. Dunkin’ Donuts is across the street.
