Sands Motel

We wanted a cheap place to sleep and shower while driving on I-22, so we called Days Inn, Hampton Inn, and Key West Hotel. Their prices were $69-109, more than we wanted to spend for just a few hours’ rest. After pulling off the interstate, we spotted the Sands Motel sign and called. A friendly person said they had a room for us for $39 plus tax, so we went straight there. The motel was very clean and nicely decorated, a little off the highway but worth it for a great night’s sleep. Check-in was quick and the front desk staff had a great personality. All the rooms are on ground level, so there were no stairs to climb after a long drive. There were lots of TV channels, plus a mini fridge and microwave. We were really pleased and will be back. Thanks for an affordable, clean room.

For $65, I expected far better. The room had a very weak WiFi signal, no trash can, and toilet paper stuffed into the door peephole. The toilet seat and floor were dirty, there was pubic hair on the bathroom floor, and the sheets, walls, and doors were stained or smeared. The fridge and shower curtain had mold, and the covers had several cigarette holes. The place was absolutely disgusting, and the staff were unfriendly as hell. I’ve never seen somewhere so repulsive. Don’t stay here.

The first room smelled awful and had roaches, so we had to switch. The replacement was clean, but the AC in that room wasn’t working very well either, and it got really hot.

I didn’t even need to see the inside after how the conversation went. Online, it said two rooms were available for $40, but when I asked, he said they didn’t have those. I politely suggested they might want to check the listing. He started raising his voice while I was holding my one-year-old, and kept doing it after speaking to the woman with him in another language. I was pretty shocked by how rude they were. We went to the American Inn instead, and they’re great people.
