La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Fultondale Birmingham N

Over the last three years, this place has gone downhill. The landscaping is nice, but the rooms are dirty and in disrepair. There are no tissues, and coffee and cups weren't stocked in our room. I felt sorry for the work crews at breakfast: when the eggs ran out at 7, none came out again, and I and other guests went without. The buffet serving pieces were dirty too. Towels and linens were thin, and the sheet had a stain.

The few things that worked in the room were the TV, iron, microwave, bathroom lights, shower, and hot water. The maid service was adequate, but the room smelled musty and dusty, so we had to use air fresheners. The elevator was out of order, even though I was put on the third floor, and the third-floor ice machine didn't work either. I had to go down to the second floor for ice. A fire alarm went off, and the front desk said a toaster had caught fire. I was told the elevator problem was recent, but apparently it had been out for weeks. The grounds outside needed maintenance as well. I regret booking, especially with lodging scarce in the area because of the Kappa convention. I can't recommend this Wyndham hotel in Birmingham. Avoid it, or call to check whether the elevator is working before you book or if something else comes up. Good luck and God bless.

The only good thing was that we got refunded. The room smelled of mold and mildew mixed with cigarette and pot, and there were cigarette burns all over the bedding. Looking closer, we found bed bugs covering both beds. Under the sheets were old, nasty mattresses covered in stains and bugs, and old food was scattered around the room. The carpets were disgusting. There were holes in the floors covered by carpet, and no elevator. The front desk man didn't seem to care when I told him, he just said he'd refund us. This place is unsafe and unsanitary, and the health department needs to shut it down. The inside looks nothing like the photos, so don't be fooled by the outside.

We reported roaches in our room and got no help or response. The front desk worker, “John,” was rude and unprofessional, dressed in Spider-Man pajamas, and brushed off our concerns. When we told him about a roach, he just said “Oh…” and handed us napkins to kill it ourselves. He wouldn't give us the manager's or corporate's contact information. Extra pillows, blankets, and a rollaway bed were advertised but unavailable. The lack of cleanliness and professionalism made the stay unacceptable. I wouldn't recommend it.
