Holiday Inn Gainesville - University Center by IHG

The hotel is fairly central in Gainesville, with plenty of parking, and I'd recommend it as a place to stay. It's a short walk to the Publix supermarket next door, with bars and food along the street. There's adjoining piesanos pizza and bar, plus a small grocery store at reception. Breakfast has a good choice, with two drinks for BnB guests, and runs 6-10, or until 11 on weekends. The pool gets sun until 5pm and was warm enough to stay in after the initial shock, even though it isn't heated. On weekends it seems busier, with the Florida gators drawing guests. The stadium is about a 20 minute walk through the college. Service was good and parking is free. The rooms have a modern finish and are really nice, huge by European standards. The only downside was the GE AC unit, which worked but was noisy. Good hotel.

Ashlyn at check-in was fantastic, and so was the bistro, but I wouldn't stay here again after how checkout went. Before the Gator basketball game, I told the front desk I needed a late checkout and asked about leaving our car and bags at the hotel while we went. The woman at checkout was rude and had an attitude throughout. She seemed irritated by our bags and anything I said. She told me I couldn't keep my car on site until 3, when the game ended, because checkout was at 2 and they were “expecting a lot of check ins…” I only asked for one extra hour, but got attitude and a warning that they'd tow the car. Given how close the hotel is to the stadium, I expected this to be easier. We took our things and left.

The team made our visit welcoming and attentive. Amarys, Natasja, and Danley were professional and kind throughout our stay, and General Manager Aksas Alouani sets a great tone through his leadership. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, and ranks among the best Holiday Inn properties we've experienced. We truly enjoyed the stay, appreciate the hospitality, and look forward to coming back.

Our school's Model United Nations club was hosted really nicely here. The rooms and lobby were clean and comfortable, and the staff were polite and friendly to talk to. It's also well located near the University of Florida if you're looking to visit or tour the campus. We had a fantastic stay and will definitely come again.
