Annie Wiggins Guest House

We stayed two nights and enjoyed Wendy’s hospitality and gorgeous home. Our room, Hattie, was perfect, and breakfast was delicious. From the covered porch, we had a beautiful view of the garden. We had a wonderful time and will return.

The innkeeper was wonderfully welcoming, and our stay was peaceful. I loved reading downstairs with a cookie from the jar, and the sitting and dining rooms were lovely. Out back, two porches with seating looked onto a secluded, pretty, peaceful yard. Our quaint room had a lovely view. The breakfast, though, cost the place a star. When I booked, the checkout form specifically asked about dietary restrictions, and I said my partner was lactose intolerant. Yet breakfast was the same for everyone: an egg and pepper bake of some sort, full of cheese and topped with sour cream. Why ask about restrictions if the food won’t account for them?

Wendy was a wonderful host, and the house and its rooms were gorgeous. Breakfast both mornings was great, and I loved the dishware and all the furniture. At 9am, breakfast is served. Before then, coffee on the front or back porch, or in one of the sitting areas, is a lovely way to start the day. It was a perfect weekend getaway, and I’d come again.

Wendy served individual breakfasts rather than a buffet, and they were very good. Our first morning brought stuffed French toast, sausage, and fresh fruit. She was also a gracious hostess and took time to sit and visit with us. I returned from Galena after staying with my older sisters at Annie Wiggins Bed and Breakfast. Wendy clearly enjoys her work and does a great job decorating and maintaining the Victorian-style BB. I was in a second-floor room, while my sisters had a first-floor room. Both were nice, but theirs was special, with plenty of space, a sitting area beside the fireplace, and a door out to a porch and garden. The house is well located, just east of downtown on a residential street lined with other large, old homes. We had a wonderful stay and only wished we could have stayed longer. Be sure you can manage stairs: there are steps at the front of the house, and the breakfast dining rooms are on the second floor. I mention it because my older sister sometimes worries about steps, though she managed these.
