Best Western Galena Inn & Suites

We skipped breakfast, so I can't comment on it, but everything else made for a great stay and felt like good value. The Oriental suite had a large hot tub, a double shower, and a private balcony looking over snowy woods. On a morning when it was -2 degrees, we enjoyed the heated pool and swam outside to take in the quiet winter scenery, then headed back into the warm pool house. Such a cool experience. The place was clean and enjoyable, though some age and wear showed, including cracked pool tiles.

The breakfast was advertised through 9, but when we arrived ten minutes before then, everything had already been cleared away, even though people were still eating. One couple asked about the food and got a rude response from the front desk employee, who said they should have come earlier. If breakfast ends at 8:30, the advertised hours should say that. It's included in what we paid for, and all I could get was a glass of very watered-down orange juice. During Memorial Day weekend, it seemed they hadn't planned for the guests they had. Don't take reservations if you can't accommodate people. I hope they address this, because otherwise I don't see the place lasting long. The room also had no DND sign or chain lock, and housekeeping walked in without knocking while we were naked, two hours before checkout. One of our two key cards didn't work, and some burned-out lights left the room dark. It was a nice little place, but the staff and these problems mean we won't return.

The themed rooms were a fun part of the stay, and some of the unexpected decorations made the trip even more exciting. We appreciated getting extra towels and blankets. The pool was warm, and the breakfast omelettes were good. We had a great time and plan to come back.

I’ll always remember how pleasant my first visit to Galena was, thanks to three wonderful staff members. The tattooed woman, the bearded man at the front desk, and the kind, short Latina housekeeper working Monday afternoon were cheerful, helpful, and full of useful information.
