Colonial Inn

The Colonial Inn is quaint, with really nice rooms, and the staff are friendly and accommodating. We come during the Holidays, when there's a light show right next to the Inn, and the unique shops are all around you. In the afternoon they serve hot chocolate or coffee with scrumptious shortbread cookies, and there's breakfast in the morning. We've been back for a few years and I finally got around to writing a review. I'd highly recommend it.

The Colonial Inn in Historic Smithville, New Jersey worked really well as a place for the guys to get ready on the wedding day. As a wedding photographer, I found the large windows and soft natural light great for portraits, details, and candid shots without complicated lighting. There was enough room for everyone to dress and move around, and the warm, classic interior added character without distracting from the couple or the details. The relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff helped keep the morning calm, which made for happier clients and better pictures. It's not a huge bridal suite or a luxury hotel, but this charming Historic Smithville B&B was a comfortable, authentic spot with good light. I'd recommend it to couples looking for a characterful place to get ready.

The walls and floors are so thin that we heard yelling, stomping, and doors slamming above us from 3 a.m. onward. I expected a wholesome, peaceful stay, but the noise kept us up. There's no phone to call the front desk. I chose this room because I'm disabled and it looked accessible. My MS already keeps me awake enough, I didn't need loud neighbors on top of it. The rooms and staff are wonderful, and I'd love to give the place five stars, but the noise was too much.

We stayed in room 105 in the main lodge while visiting Smithville Village. The room was clean and cozy, the staff friendly, and the location couldn't be better: step outside and you're right in the Village. A great stay from start to finish.
