Americas Best Value Inn Gallup

I’d been using booking.com for years without trouble, so I booked and paid for a pet friendly room here. At check-in, I was told the property only has four pet rooms and they were all occupied. They couldn’t refund my money, so I paid for nothing and had to find another hotel up the street. I’d rate this zero stars if I could. The 7.3 rating on booking.com doesn’t match my experience, and the Google reviews seemed more accurate to me. They shouldn’t list rooms on third-party apps if they can’t honor the booking. Also, you have to get the gas station cashier to meet you at the hotel desk. Don’t stay here.

The room we got, 230, was right by the railway tracks, and the noise went on all night. We’d been in the US for two weeks and this was our one night here. It was awful, and I don’t think we should have been assigned that room. When I mentioned it to the receptionist at checkout, “I’m sorry ma’am” wasn’t enough. An offer of a refund would have been appreciated. We look forward to hearing back.

The room itself was great, and the old-fashioned key worked fine, but the restaurant service was awful. The included breakfast was burnt toast, cold hash browns, and cold imitation eggs. Our voucher said we could add drinks like coffee or order items outside the included meal, but the server was dismissive and rude, didn’t offer us any other choices, and mostly ignored us after a quick greeting. There wasn’t a continental breakfast either.

We booked through Expedia on the way to The Grand Canyon and slept well. Check-in was easy, and the bed was great. The room was basic, with somewhat dated furniture, but clean and comfortable. The water pressure was excellent, and I hadn’t expected a microwave or mini fridge, so those were a nice extra. Good stay for the price.
