Commodore on the beach

The staff were amazing, friendly, and understanding. The room was another story. It felt uncomfortable and run down, perhaps from the recent hurricanes and lack of upkeep. The bathroom looked like it hadn't changed since the sixties, with lukewarm water, leaky fixtures, and an industrial-style toilet. The TV would turn on but not off, so we had to mute it. Walkways were literally falling apart, the pool needed repainting or resealing, and the bedside lamps didn't work. The mini fridge did. Breakfast was only packaged muffins, danishes and cinnamon rolls, cereal, milk, coffee, orange juice, apple juice, and lemonade that wasn't working. The photos on Google and the hotel's website were completely misleading. We expected a three-star hotel and got something that felt like negative one star. Spring break meant other places were booked, so we couldn't switch or get a refund. Please spend the extra $20-50 and stay elsewhere, and read reviews first.

The view and friendly service were the best parts. The woman at the desk was helpful, and check-in and checkout were easy. It's about a 15-minute walk to the pier. The building itself has structural issues, though: cracks in walls, stairs, and balconies looked worrying, and time has clearly taken a toll on its appearance. Even on a holiday weekend, it seemed more than half the rooms weren't in use, which gave the place a ghost-hotel feel. Our room was tidy, but I wasn't sure how often the bed covers get washed. Breakfast was poor, just granola bars and instant coffee to make yourself. It's okay if you won't spend much time in the room or facilities. I don't plan to return. It's not terrible, but I can find somewhere better for the same price.

The room was clean, the beds soft, the view lovely, and the staff friendly. They were also updating flooring in some rooms. Beyond that, it went downhill. The outside of the hotel looked dirty and run down, the TV reception was so bad we couldn't watch, and there was no hot water, only warm. The door locks were extremely hard to open. It really needs a major makeover and updates.

The air conditioning worked, which was the one good thing I can say. The online pictures looked appealing, but pulling into the parking lot was a shock, and I couldn't believe I'd paid to stay there. At check-in they said to give them 30 minutes because the room wasn't ready. When I came back, housekeeping met me at the door and it still hadn't been cleaned. They got right on it and apologized, but I don't think it was cleaned properly. The room was very old and outdated, with too few towels and pillows. They hadn't mopped, and my feet got dirty walking across the floor. The pool looks beautiful online, but it was missing tiles and the surrounding grounds needed cleaning. There wasn't a real breakfast, just muffins and cereal. Not impressed.
