The Residency Inn

My spouse stayed one night before a cruise. It was cheap, so maybe the claw-mark-looking door, drywall holes, and signs of ceiling leaks that hadn’t been fixed were somewhat understandable. But the inside of the fridge was covered in mold, which is a health hazard and unacceptable at any price. He said the staff were friendly and accommodating. His buddy, a long-haul truck driver, said it was only the second-worst hotel he’d stayed in, if that tells you anything. I wish Google let me upload the photos to show how bad it really was.

I was taken in by the NAME. My 12-year-old read the reviews on the way there, but we’d booked through a website and couldn’t cancel. My husband and sons weren’t happy with the place. It felt sketchy and showed a lot of wear and tear. The TV worked, and parking was free, at least. We wouldn’t have taken a shower there: maintenance had used duct tape in the shower, and the paint was worn off. We’d arrived during Mardi Gras without knowing it, so we didn’t have other options if we wanted to change places. With the discount, it came to $86 with taxes. I’m glad I didn’t pay more. It’s a cheap place to sleep, so don’t expect much.

On the morning of our stay, we couldn’t get our room door open. We called the front desk several times, but no one answered, and there was no staff available. We ended up having to leave through the window, which felt unsafe, especially with a child. The room wasn’t clean either. The stay fell short of basic safety and cleanliness.

With the ice storm coming, I needed a room at the last minute for Saturday night so I wouldn’t have to drive to the cruise port on Sunday. There were no other rooms on the island for under $300. The service was fine, and the room was clean, but the bed was awful, the sheet was small and scratchy, and there were no towels. It was safe and clean, and suited what I needed at short notice. Given time and other options, it wouldn’t be my choice.
