Red Roof Inn Painted Post

The bed frame in my room was broken and left the bed leaning. I propped it up with a car gas cap I found outside. The TV didn’t work, and the worn door hinge meant I had to force the door shut. The facility smelled of pot smoke, families were staying there and letting their children play in the hallway, and the outside door wouldn’t lock, so it felt unsecure. I travel a lot, and this has quickly become one of my five worst hotel stays. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

The staff were incredibly friendly and personable, and they moved me promptly when I reported a bedbug in my first room. I did a check right after checking in and found one within seconds. The replacement room was just as dirty and poorly maintained, though fortunately I didn’t find bedbugs there. Several rooms were being fumigated while I was there, so the hotel clearly has an issue. The cleanliness was a real problem, and I won’t be back.

The customer service was amazing. When we wanted ideas for things to do, the person at the front desk gave us a whole packet of activities and places to eat. The walls are thin, but when the guy next door got really loud, they switched our room without any fuss. The attached restaurant and bar was really, really good and had great prices. The pool was okay, with a nice deep end, though there was a bit of dirt on the floor, which is expected outdoors. The hallway had a little stench, nothing too crazy. Our room looked clean, but the floors were pretty dirty: my socks turned really black when I walked around. My friends’ room didn’t have that same problem. For what you pay, you get more than enough. It’s a great budget option and definitely one of the nicest Red Roofs I’ve stayed at.

The bugs were a pretty unwelcome surprise. Some kind of bug crawled out of the clothes I’d left on the chair, and I think it was a baby cockroach. The woman at the front desk didn’t seem concerned or apologetic. My shower also ran out of hot water. The evening before, the man at the desk had been helpful and found us an extra chair, which was odd since our double room had only one. At this price, I expect some shabbiness, but not bugs. Before the hot water ran out and I found the bug, I’d given the hotel a fairly good rating.
