Benbow Historic Inn

The Clara suite shower has no curtain or door, so water ends up all over the bathroom. Maybe it’s meant to be ADA accessible, but it was still pretty wild. I’d take a bath there instead. The restaurant was underwhelming and overpriced, so I’d eat somewhere else during your stay. Even so, I loved this hotel and would come back. The lounge had a cozy fireplace and a great atmosphere, especially with the Christmas decorations and music when I visited. Our room was warm and comfortable, and there’s river access that sounds like a lot of fun in summer. Five out of five for me.

The grounds are green and leafy, with lots of shady places to sit, and the restaurant was solid. We had a remarkable stay at the Benbow Inn. It’s an early 20th century Tudor-style building tucked among the trees, with comfortable rooms and unusual antiques. The place has the character of another era and even a bit of a Stephen King feel, though it’s definitely not haunted. I’d absolutely stay again.

Dinner may make you want to stay forever, and the decor and service are just as impressive. The architecture and carefully maintained grounds caught my eye first. You can show up dressed up or dressed down and still get that classic 1930s Hollywood star feeling, even if you’re going for an incognito look. There’s so much distinctive charm here. It would also make a lovely event venue for a classy, romantic occasion.

We come back several times a year, and Christmas at the Benbow is especially lovely. The holiday decorations and food are wonderful. The place welcomes pets, and our dog has a great time riding the elevator. The staff are so friendly and always remember us.
