Hampton Inn Garden City

I’ve been here a few times for work and when passing through, and I’d come back. The renovation looks good, though the showers still seem worn out. Breakfast was fine, with the eggs cooked just right. I booked through a travel site because it was $60 less per night than the hotel’s own site. The hotel rate included a $16 “recovery fee,” whatever that is, which I wasn’t willing to pay. After I paid the travel site, the hotel charged me too. When I called late that night, they said it was my problem. I called again in the morning and they refunded the extra charge quickly.

The motel was clean, the location was handy, and breakfast was really good. We were there November 14-16 for my kids’ birthday trip to Parrot Cover Water Park. The big letdown was finding the pool closed, since we’d planned to swim on our first day. Room 212 was fine apart from water damage by the HVAC unit and a large gouge in the drywall. For a vacation nearby, Lee Richardson Zoo is worth a stop. It’s free to walk around, or you can pay $10 to drive through and park at different spots to cut down on walking. We also ate at Walk-On Sports Bistreaux a couple of blocks away and were impressed with the food and service. I’d give the motel five stars if the pool had been open. I wish they’d offer some kind of credit on the hotel fee.

The customer service was great, but the bathroom was rough: most of the grout was broken, there was mold in the shower, and the baseboard trim was coming away from the wall. The fridge also wasn’t plugged in. I expect a certain level of quality at a Hampton Inn, and this didn’t match what I’ve had at other Hampton Inn locations I travel to.

I’ve stayed here a lot. The staff are friendly enough, but nobody offers the honor member perks at check-in. The rooms are showing some wear, and breakfast is the same every time.
