We found a brochure for the Roosevelt hotel while eating at The Spot, with a map and a special rate. The hotel was only a minute away by car. It was March, a quiet season, and about 8 pm after the office had closed, so we called the number on the sign. The online discount code wouldn’t work, but Greg came down quickly and booked us with the deal. He was a cool guy and told us about the area, including wolf and other tour guides. Our first-floor room, 2103, was beside the main building and faced the mountain. Elk grazed in view for much of the day, and the patio had chairs where we could sit and watch. The included binoculars were excellent for seeing wildlife at a distance. The room was clean and a good size for a single queen bed, with a comfy bed, small fridge, TV, two dressers, and an open corner closet. The bathroom was spacious and had its own heater to warm the floor in winter. There was one window, but it didn’t give a clear mountain view. Instead, the view was from the shared patio used by two other rooms. It felt more like staying at someone’s home than at a hotel, and there were no bugs. The next morning, we extended our stay for another night because we planned to spend all day at Yellowstone. A friendly woman in the lobby helped us, and we picked up fruit and coffee before heading out. The binoculars came in handy again for spotting animals. I’d recommend renting a pair from the hotel if you don’t have any, or taking advantage of a deal that includes them. After a long day, we appreciated the quiet and slept well. Roosevelt sits at the base of a huge mountain, and we saw deer and elk from both the front and back of the property. It’s a great base for Yellowstone, about a five-minute drive from the entrance, with the town’s main strip in walking distance. The hotel is newly renovated, clean, quiet, and staffed by friendly people. It seemed like the nicest hotel in Gardiner to us, and we wouldn’t bother looking elsewhere.

The $23 “resort fee” caught me off guard since I didn’t hear about it until check-in. I can’t see what amenities would justify that charge. The hotel itself was clean and comfortable, the staff were nice, and breakfast was simple but included. The layout is a little odd. One section is set apart from the front building, and you have to drive past a few regular houses to reach it. Also, the outdoor lights bring in lots of little flies, which get inside whenever you open the door. Still, the beds were comfortable, and I’d stay again.

The bathroom is roomy, but there’s barely anywhere to put toiletries, just a pedestal sink and a small glass shelf above it. We cleared off the coffee bar and used that instead. It would be better with some shelves. For coffee, there are single-serve pods, though we like a larger pour and didn’t use them. Complimentary coffee, fresh danishes, and oatmeal were available a short walk across the parking lot, and that worked perfectly for us. This place is a real diamond in the rough: new, comfortable, clean, and very nice, with attentive staff. Gardiner doesn’t have many good restaurants if you want something beyond burgers. We liked Wonderland, which isn’t what I’d call fine dining, but it came closest for us. We also had breakfast at Paradise Deli, a short walk or drive away. They made sandwiches for us to take into the park for lunch, and those were good.

The room was spacious and clean, with nice beds and a great bathroom. They also provide complimentary coffee and danishes. A fantastic place to stay while visiting Yellowstone, right by the North Entrance and close to lots of wildlife. Highly recommend!

We had a wonderful stay in Cabin 5. It was clean, cozy, and just right for what my family needed. The gentleman at the front desk deserves a special mention. I missed his name, but he was friendly, helpful, and had great local suggestions. He went out of his way to make our stay enjoyable. We’ll definitely come back.
