Historian Inn

It’s a quiet, comfortable place, and the rooms don’t smell of cigarettes, mildew or rotten furniture. Mine had two queen beds with down comforters in one very large room, which was above standard. Everything was very clean, modern and well kept, though it’s not a fancy, high-end motel. I paid around $120 for the night. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate are available around the clock, and there were fresh donuts in the morning. If I get snowed in again, I’ll stay here.

The inside had distinctive furnishings, and the hotel was clean and modern when I checked in on Thursday, February 27th. The gentleman who helped me was friendly and helpful. I’d definitely come back.

The location and morning doughnuts were the best parts for me. It was fairly clean, but very basic, like a Motel 6 at a Marriott price. I booked through a third party for a better rate, and although the place accepts pets, the fee was twice what the website listed. Since my booking couldn’t be refunded, they knew they had me. That cost me a star. There was also an open sewer cleanout in the bathroom, which was jarring alongside all the laminated signs warning us not to stain the towels. Together those things left me feeling like I was in a bad neighborhood. A few small upgrades could make this a much better property, but for the price I’d choose the holiday inn.

The staff are super nice, and we’ve stayed here a few times while passing through. The rooms are basic but clean. Morning donuts and coffee are great, there’s a nice park behind the hotel, and decent restaurants are within walking distance. The sign about stained towels seemed odd. The TVs need an upgrade too, since it takes several button presses to get one working. At $40 per dog per night, our two dogs added $80, which felt steep.
