Hyatt Place Dallas/Garland/Richardson

The rooms are a little dated, but the service made up for it. Brooke was especially helpful and made sure we had what we needed to enjoy our stay. Breakfast was pretty good, too.

We switched rooms after the third-floor one greeted us with a powerful citronella-like smell that made me nauseous. The sixth floor didn’t have that porta-potty odor, at least. But the replacement pack and play was broken, and the first one had arrived with two straws and plastic trash inside. A kind man at the desk said he’d get that first one cleaned and sent up. By 11 p.m. it still hadn’t come, and when we called again we were told none were available. Meanwhile, I found the body wash bottle empty and a strand of someone else’s hair in the shower. We’d been waiting since about 9 p.m. for cribs for the babies. The room itself had a dried white substance on the bed and floor. After all that, I held my baby the entire night so he wouldn’t roll off the bed, and got no sleep. This was the worst Hyatt stay I’ve had. I wouldn’t recommend it unless mystery stains, missing cribs, and nausea from the third-floor smell sound appealing.

The heated spa pool and the welcome gift for Hyatt elite members were nice perks. Parking is free, though you need a hanger. The place was built in 2009, so I was surprised it already seemed to need maintenance: the AC window-unit cover was coming loose and the wall thermostat didn’t work. Warm water took a long time at the sink, while the tub got hot water quickly.

The breakfast was a nice bonus, with lots of choices and an omelette station for an extra charge. We had a good one-night stay in Dallas, with a comfortable, roomy room and clean bathroom, floors, and bedding. We picked rooms on the highest floor and enjoyed the view of the surrounding area. I’d stay here again if I’m nearby.
