La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Garland Harbor Point

The room was fairly clean, but noisy, and the pool had a slightly odd smell. The peel-and-stick tile was an interesting choice. The bed was much too hard, and our neighbors turned up the TV at 2 a.m., so sleep was a lost cause. Breakfast the next morning was a no for me; I’d rather pick something up elsewhere. The building looks its age, though the lobby was clean. The receptionist seemed sincere and nice, but said they could only give us one key because of a shortage. There were only eight cars in the lot, so I didn’t understand that. Given the surrounding area, we probably should have shopped around. The appearance and lighting were totally different from the pictures, and things looked no better in daylight.

Check-in was easy, the staff were friendly, and breakfast included waffles. Our room was clean, and we felt safe in the area. The only real problem was how thin the walls were. We could hear people in the halls and the TVs in the rooms next door.

Elizabeth was kind and so helpful when I was already stressed about having to find a hotel for the weekend during the winter storm. The power meter at home had burned out. She made settling in easy and accommodated me and my three boys. She even came over to show me how to use the heater. She’s wonderful.

The bathrooms in the main hall were filthy, old, and nasty. I’ve seen better ones at gas stations. This La Quinta felt dated and creepy, like something from a horror movie, and it was noisy, uncomfortable, and dirty. I won’t be back, and I regret trusting the reviews. We went three days without a hot shower because the water boiler was broken. Staff said they knew about it and were working on it, but gave no repair estimate and offered no discount or other accommodation. The room smelled like Raid roach spray, and I killed six bugs during my stay. Housekeeping did check on me on day two, which was refreshing. There’s no cigarette extinguisher or designated smoking area, so smokers toss their butts in the flower bed by the lobby.
