Brass Door Motel Gassville

The view out back, over the open field and woods, is beautiful. Phil has always treated me well here, and the rooms are clean and nicely remodeled. It’s a pretty good place to stay.

The location is nice, and I understand the low price, but there are services for dealing with roaches. I left my travel bag in the back of my truck so I wouldn’t bring any home. Some lamps didn’t work, and the automatic air freshener made a sound like an electronic deadbolt that kept me up all night. People were arguing in the parking lot, too. The place doesn’t seem to be run with much pride.

I asked for a nonsmoking room, but the first single room I got had clearly been smoked in by a previous guest. They moved me to a two bed room at the same price. It hadn’t been smoked in and was exactly what I needed.

The room smelled strongly of cigarette and marijuana smoke, so I asked to switch rooms. They wouldn’t let my ADA certified service dog stay in the nonsmoking room they offered. It was dingy, with dead bugs in the bathtub, and there were dead flies and bugs throughout. I was also told by other local stores that transients often stay there. When I asked for a refund, they offered only a partial one because we’d checked in a couple of hours earlier, even though I hadn’t gotten into a room until I asked for a different one. The rooms stink, and the place isn’t ADA savvy. If you’re okay with a cheap, funky smelling room and having to sleep lightly so you can check on your belongings through the night, this is your place.
