The bed was comfortable, and the fridge was a decent size with a small freezer compartment. Breakfast had a decent selection, though some things were soggy or dry, like the cinnamon rolls. The bathroom was a little dirty, and the towels were thinner than at other hotel chains. There was also some highway noise outside.

I’d stayed in Gatesville twice before, but after this third visit in mid December, I’ll go back to the hotel I used previously and won’t stay at Holiday Inn again. On the second night, around 10 pm, I saw a cockroach. I went straight to reception, and the employee said he’d tell the manager, but nobody offered to move us or do anything else. I left the lights on to sleep, checked my bags, and when we got home I immediately washed everything, including jackets and shoes, and cleaned the suitcases and purses as best I could. At checkout, no one mentioned the bug. I’ve attached photos. I tried to kill it, but it fell and ran under the fridge. Yuck. Also check your receipt: I don’t know why I was charged at checkout when this was a package deal, and I still need to call about it. We booked two double queen rooms through priceline for three days. Parking was plentiful, the building looked newish, and the rooms seemed fine, with sitting areas, small fridges and microwaves. But one room, on the first floor near the kitchen and dining area, was so noisy that we could hear people talking and every door opening and closing. The other room was on the second floor and had a "not ready" sign at 6 pm on our reservation day because the AC wasn’t working properly. Checkout here is 11 am. My son also said he could hear the guest in the room below snoring, so the walls are very thin. Breakfast was ordinary hotel fare. The pancake machine was broken the first morning, and there were no waffles. I don’t use housekeeping on short stays, so I left the trash and used towels outside expecting fresh towels, but they weren’t replaced. I could probably have asked for clean ones if needed. Since this is a small city, those things were fine until I saw the roach.

The beds were much too firm for me, though I know that’s just my preference. Even so, I’d stay here again. The room was pristine, the bathroom had all the basics in case you forgot something, and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fresh and amazing.

I was impressed by how well cared for the room felt. It was clean and comfortable, with fresh-feeling linens. The bed was mostly comfortable, too.
