Spark by Hilton Greensboro

We booked through a secondary website and requested a king room for two with a roll-in shower. They honored the request, and the first-floor room was very accessible. My fiancé uses a wheelchair, and the bed, tables, and sink were all at a great height. The shower had no tub or lip to get over, the head was easy to reach and pull down, and the water pressure was great. They even supplied a shower chair, which no hotel had done for us before. It was very clean, with blackout curtains and a really comfortable bed and pillows. Great for the price. Our friends stayed at a more expensive hotel within walking distance and said ours was better. Breakfast was fine, though there wasn't hot food, as it's not a fancy hotel. There were lots of people loitering on the street, but that's not the hotel's fault, and the hotel's features made us feel safe. Noon checkout was wonderful too.

Christine and the front desk staff were excellent, and the breakfast attendants were great too. The hotel was mostly clean, though it could use some attention outside and a few small repairs or updates in the rooms and hallways. Thanks for helping me and my pups have a good first stay at Spark. I choose Hilton for its pet policy. Someone complained that my dogs were barking, but the front desk ladies helped put me at ease and didn't make me feel like the barking was a big problem. We’ve had good experiences with the hotels Hilton has taken over. They’re tidy and usually well priced, and we still like the brand. At this location, though, we couldn’t understand the check-in decision. After driving more than six hours from West Virginia, we arrived at noon and explained that we hoped to get into our reserved room early. The clerk checked with the manager, even though there were plenty of empty rooms, and we heard the manager say no, check-in is at 3. Maybe we were being whiny, but it was disappointing.

The hotel is quiet, and our standard king room was clean. It came with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, hand soap, and face bars. Room cleaning is every other day if you want it; for fresh towels between cleanings, leave the used ones outside and they’ll bring replacements. Our cleaner was especially helpful: although it wasn’t our cleaning day, she took our food trash, brought bags, and checked whether we needed towels or other supplies. Breakfast is basic but enough for a quick start: coffee, hot tea, juice, cold cereal, oatmeal, yogurt with toppings, and a few kinds of bagels that can be toasted. Everyone at the front desk was friendly and useful, and even other guests helped me reach my floor when my hands were full. The hotel sits back from the highway, so traffic wasn’t audible inside, though we heard doors on the last night when a large group of kids seemed to be staying there. That sort of noise can happen in any hotel. Parking filled up at night, especially near the window sides of the lots, so we usually used the back lot. The doors are secured overnight, with entry by room key or mobile key, and security checks the property each night. Nearby are sit-down and fast-food restaurants, gas stations with mini marts, and gift shops. There’s also a local bus stop at the end of the road; I’m sure the hotel can explain its route if you need it. Sparks is part of Hilton, but this is a lower-end option if you’re expecting full Hilton amenities. It has a fitness room, small snack shop, seasonal outdoor pool, two elevators, and a mobile app for room access, check-in and checkout, and TV control. I couldn’t find a laundry room or any sign for one. Check what amenities are offered before booking if that matters to you.
