Sharon led our guided walk to Kuwohi, and she was professional, friendly, and knew a lot. She stopped at several scenic and historic spots along the way. Snacks and water were provided, which we appreciated. The climb was a very steep 1/2 mile, and she checked that everyone was doing okay during and after it. The views of the Smoky Mountains were breathtaking. There was no rush, and we went at a pace each person was comfortable with. I highly recommend the tour. I wish the resort ran it more often during the week, since each trip only has room for a van load and the available spots fill fast. We also tried the on-site escape room with Charlee. It was challenging, and we ran out of time without solving it, but had fun working together to find clues. We think it would be better with more than one room involved. We enjoyed it and would recommend it to others, and we'll do another escape room when we return. Other resorts could use activities like these for families and groups, not only kids.
I left the spa feeling refreshed and without pain. Christina was kind and professional, and she took time to work on the areas where I had tension and discomfort. The pressure felt just right, and I was so relaxed I nearly fell asleep. She made me feel at ease throughout. It was one of the best massages I've had, and I'll definitely come back. Thanks, Christina!
The activity center was a great way to spend an afternoon on the property, with amazing scenery and a welcoming feel for families of any age. Scott Smith, the concierge, was attentive, knowledgeable, helpful, and kind. Shannon, the naturalist, was phenomenal too. We took two of her classes, both really well done and full of information, and she paid close attention to detail. Highly recommend!
Southern Comfort Restaurant was a trip highlight. The food was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care; every dish we tried was cooked just right and the portions were generous. Jordan and the rest of the staff were attentive and made sure everything was good. We also had a wonderful stay at Smoky Mountain Resort. It was clean and comfortable, with beautiful Smoky Mountains views and a convenient location. The staff were welcoming and ready to help, which made the whole visit easy and relaxing. I'd recommend both the resort and the restaurant to anyone visiting the area. Five stars all around, and I'll be back.
The two people who made our stay better were Presley in the arcade, who was friendly and helpful with our kids and other guests, and Brian, our attentive, wonderful server at Southern Comfort. We were there for 4 days/3 nights. I work in the industry and studied it, and after more than a decade on the job I try to understand the challenges staff deal with. Still, our room had clear cleaning shortcuts. While unpacking, we found muffin wrappers, layers of dirt and dust, and stains under and around the couch and end tables. I've stayed places where you can look under a couch and find no trash or dirt. With kids, toys end up on the floor, so we noticed. The dishes weren't clean, dirty ones were left in the dishwasher, and a broken dishwasher part was inside it. Bathrooms hadn't been fully stocked with tissues or toilet paper. We knew a 90 minute presentation was part of the discounted online rate. We've attended good and bad ones before, and I told the salesperson up front that we weren't in a position to buy a timeshare, regardless of whether I thought it had value. I said I'd studied the industry, my parents own timeshare, and I'd been through presentations before. We were only there to fulfill the 90-minute obligation. It took 2.5 hours to leave, after we said no many times and were shown different numbers and lower prices. Then a corporate person was rude when we declined a getaway package, saying, "oh so its just about finances" before walking away. We weren't promised gifts for attending, but the presentation still felt like torture and the treatment was rude. During that LONG presentation, the waterpark tour showed prices of $15 for adults and $10 for kids. Once we got out, admission for two adults and two kids was $134, even though one child was at the free age. That's robbery, especially since not everything at the waterpark was fully functional. The on-site putt putt course was half blocked with construction tape and unusable. Many hours listed in the link texted to us on arrival were wrong, and we struggled to find food the first night because everything was closed. Texts during the stay asked whether we were enjoying ourselves. I said no and sent a long list of problems, but heard nothing back. The following day I replied to another property text to say there'd been no response. I was told management had received the list and would follow up, but nobody did. After we got home, I found an email address and sent screenshots of the texts and our concerns. It bounced because they'd given me the wrong address. I found the right one, resent it, followed up, and still heard nothing from the property.
